’Are you nervous?’ He asked as he undressed.
’No, ’ she answered, eyebrows knit in confusion. ’You did not ask me the first time around.’
’I didn’t mean about sex.’ Max ran his fingers through her hair in a gentle caress, chuckling. She frowned in confusion, but her next question was effectively silenced with a passionate kiss.
Only later, when her afterglow was already ruined by his comment about her being hard to please these days, did she think to ask again.
’What did you mean about me being nervous?’
’Zeph, you are having your exams tomorrow.’
’Oh. Should I be nervous?’ Her frown deepened.
’Most people don’t pass the first time around.’
’You did.’
’That is not the point.’
’Because?’
’Look, I am your appointed master. There’s no use in comparing yourself to me. It’ll only give you disappointment.’
’But you were a student once. Just like I am.’
’Yes, but… Look, I was very talented. I am.’
’So am I. Or at least that’s what they say. Do you not think so?’
’I think you are great. And I also think you are young.’
She stayed quiet for a while, heart hammering against her chest. She was not nervous before, but…
’Look, all I’m saying is… Its okay if you don’t pass. Its just… until you do, we can not be together.’
’No pressure though, right? Merlin… Besides you won’t be my mentor anymore, not even if I fail.’
’Zephy, we talked about this. We can not be seen together until you finish the academy.’
’Guess I’ll just have to pass then…’ She said with a half smirk, but he shook his head.
’Your overconfidence in your abilities is your greatest downfall. The comitee will hunt for such errors in your character.’
She looked at him with an incredulous expression. ’Right.’
And when he turned away and did not reply anything she continued.
’Right. I’ll just be leaving then.’ She threw flew-powder into the fire.
’Come here!’ he said gently, pulling her close to him, kissing her tenderly this time. ’Take care, Zephy. And good luck tomorrow!’
’Thanks.’
She smiled and stepped into the green flames.
