Threats
“Don’t steal it ever again!”
It was delightfully easy to make Ben’s blood boil. She could feel it within the strange, unearthly vibration she would later learn to acknowledge as the Force, burning through, vibrating with raw, hidden power. All this power was within her brother: his skin a shell, his spirit a cracked vessel. Things were swooshing in and flowing out; and with the unmatched stubbornness of a child, Ben was adamantly trying to control them.
“Just don’t!” He clawed at her hand with his fingernails. They were too long again. It hurt, but she only laughed.
“It’s mine!”
“You are so grudgy!”
“Give it back,” seethed Ben, throwing in his favourite card, “or I’ll tell Mother!”

One time, Jyn had made her way back to the smouldering ruins of her childhood, sat before what remained of the entrance of the temple, and wondered if Ben would talk to Mother ever again.
(He had always been the preferred child, after all).
Tradition
Your ambitions, the echo of words brushed through her hair like a memory of wind. By now, you must have considered what direction would you like to take from next year.
This was it - not yet a verdict, no longer a threat, just a cold, detached declaration.
(If the Force could speak, its voice would have sounded in such a way).
I’m getting too old, she realised then. She had to force the idea through his mind, pushing it into focus. (She did not feel nearly-twelve at all…)
Perhaps a smuggler, she heard someone speaking in her voice. I don’t really know yet.
“I presumed you’d aim somewhat higher,” the glass-smooth voice of the alcade was gone. Master Ahsoka Tano raised her brows, and was looking at her with wary eyes.
“And I presume,” Jaina Solo crossed her arms in front of her chest, “that smugglers spend more time with their families than racing pilots do.”
Notes
a) 'Jyn' refers to Jaina Solo, Han's and Leia's daughter. I gave her a new storyline and changed her nickname to Jyn (as an allusion to Jyn Erso).
b) In one version of the Solo family’s story, Han abandons his political position (and his family) to become a racing pilot.
c) Ahsoka Tano is a Jedi master in my version of Luke's Academy :)
